Terry was born in Milford Haven, Wales UK in 1958 and immigrated to Australia with her parents and sister in 1964.
In the mid 80's, Terry began to sew professionally, making wedding dresses in her spare time. During this time she joined the Society of Creative Anachronism (a medieval re-creation group) and started stretching her repertoire to pre 17th century garments. In 1989 Terry became a Laurel (the top arts award given by the group) and began making period garments to sell at major events. In 1991, she dabbled in a few things, including Bridal headpieces for a well-known Bridal house at the time and then bought into a fancy dress hire shop in 1993 where made over 100 costumes.
In 1996 she again started something new when she joined the Costumers Guild of Australia, based in Melbourne. After winning numerous competitions within the SCA, she entered the parades at the annual Costume Guild 'Costumers Ball' in 1997 and 1998 and won 'Best Master' in both.
